One day, upon returning to the Conductor's Room, the Conductor was taken aback to find an exquisite flower arrangement that didn't seem like the style of something from the Shoggolith store run by people of the Empire.
The Conductor checked with several crew members born in Ranshin City whether they had brought the flowers but was told no by them all, until Akira appeared in the aisle and said with his typical complacency, "Didn't see it coming, huh? That's the work of the genius me! I couldn't resist when I saw the fresh flowers lying around in there. Big surprise, right?"
Although Akira's image as a fashionista had been long established, even his work partners in Anita were totally unaware of this skill of his.
"Seeing how curious you are... Well, if it's you, Conductor, I don't mind telling you, but it's not exactly a conversation to be had on the aisle. You don't have anything going on now, do you? If so, how about you come with me to the café to sit and have a chat? The cakes of this place have been on my wishlist forever!"
This was possibly the first time Akira told someone about his family. He's the son of a Ranshin City florist, and yet he has no plans to succeed this craft, merely having picked up a thing or two about it when he was younger. Once he came of age, he left his hometown without a second thought.
"I don't think it's strange. To be honest, me and my siblings all think that it isn't that bad to maintain some distance from each other. There's no need for everyone to stick together just because we're a family... The bond of familial relations isn't something that will be easily broken over physical distance, no?"
Following that, Akira shared more about his life in Ranshin City. Maybe because those stories were interesting enough, those pretty but yucky cakes were much easier to swallow.
