Kaleya
With her youthful appearance and usual outfit, Kaleya is often mistaken by those who don't know her as a new intern nurse in Anita. In reality, she is a capable Gardener familiar with the Chaos world's environment, and often provides her comrades with environmental support. Gentle, generous, and knowledgeable, Kaleya is popular and trusted by her colleagues. Perhaps to compensate for the regret of being unable to use her physician's license, Kaleya is always eager to offer medical support when needed.
The research project that Kaleya chose to participate in, which is regarding the technique of fixed-point teleportation, is incredibly important to the entire Gardener division. It is a huge and complicated project, and Kaleya's mentor is also one of the researchers.
Her mentor had discovered Kaleya's talent for this field while mentoring her and was keen to nurture that for her, which eventually led to Kaleya becoming the only Gardener from her intake who picked this field. To tell the truth, her initial objective was medical-related research, but when faced with her mentor's earnest persuasion, she resolutely gave up on her original plan.
With her attentiveness, Kaleya soon managed to utilize this technique stably, and she selected environmental conservation support as her next research subject. When asked about it, she answered with a smile, "This result is more beneficial for everyone, no? Besides, I'm very keen on this issue too."
"What? Kaleya? You finally have the chance to chat with a popular heartthrob like me. Can't you pick a nicer topic? Geez... Never mind. On account of your ability to appreciate my charm, I'll be nice and give you one advice. No matter what, just stay away from that woman! All of you have been fooled by her. She's, in fact, a super cheesy person who only knows to say cringey jokes all the time. Hmph! Clearly, you don't get it. If you were as poor thing as me to be assigned to the same Gardener mentor as her, forced to listen to her nonsensical crap every single day, you'd surely avoid her like the plague too! Moreover, sometimes... I have no clue what that woman is thinking, but she just creeps me out! That's all I'm saying. You gotta heed my words!" —Voice recording of a certain 180cm-tall Prince of Skiing.
Born into a family of physicians, Kaleya had aspired to help the injured since she was a child, a feeling so intense that it became the lone thing she strived for. Her unexpected talents might have stood in the way of her medical research goal after she joined Anita, but she did not give up on this passion of hers; she, who possesses a medical license, would help treat her colleagues in times of need from time to time.
Even though receiving proper help should be a pleasant thing, a few of the people who had the chance to be looked after by Kaleya have some differing views. She is incredibly meticulous when taking care of the injured, but it's practically over the top. The moment she finds out someone's injured, even if it's purely something minor like a scrape or a bruise, Kaleya will order the injured to rest and not work, and her attention would be fully devoted to the patient. In no time, everyone on The Eternal had such an astonishing experience of their own.
Naturally, the person who has been "looked after" the most is still the hard-working Conductor. Many times, Kaleya had to half-convince and half-force the Conductor to take a break. An inexplicably excited smile is always on her face as she passes through the carriages looking for people who "need help." For someone who finds so much joy in taking care of others, will she genuinely not regret giving up on pursuing the study of medicine?
As long as I can help everyone.
As long as this can protect most people's interests, I don't mind sacrificing myself.
All that matters is that the people I want to protect are happy.
These lines belonging to "positive characters" in literary works are also Kaleya's life mottos. The desire to help somebody, protect somebody, and take care of somebody. These actions are what gives her joy, yet for someone who has such a selfless hobby, she once got an extremely dangerous score during a routine psychological assessment in high school.
This result left the teachers open-mouthed, as Kaleya was an excellent student with numerous friends and a happy family, hardly the representation of someone with an unstable state of mind. Their repeated communication with her and her parents also confirmed that she hadn't suffered any kind of stress. Seeing how dumbfounded everybody was, Kaleya had no choice but to reveal, "Sorry. I was a bit absentminded during the assessment, so I didn't really read the questions clearly and just picked an answer at random."
After a redo, Kaleya received a normal score with her answers, much to everyone's relief. From then on, she continued with her education, never once making another mistake when it came to questionnaires handed out by the school, and people eventually forgot about this incident.
However, Kaleya herself was well aware that honesty wasn't required when filling up these questionnaires. Her rational mind knew exactly how to answer these to get a perfect score, and her emotions were cognizant that what she truly wanted to do were fairly radical, such as making a certain someone be eternally reliant on her care, even if it meant she had to do some things that would upset others...
"Will that important person appear in my life someday?" With this expectation in mind, she went on and on to conceal her true thoughts behind those normal scores.
Hello, I'm Kaleya from Anita. If there's anything I can help you with, feel free to ask.
I'm very good at guard work. Please feel free, or rather, definitely rely on me.
Hey, did you think I was Anita's intern nurse instead of a Gardener? No need to apologize. I appreciate that you did. Thank you.
The tool I use can teleport, just like ship anchors are able to mark specific "locations". Don't underestimate it. Accidents due to getting lost and being unable to return to the surface are not uncommon.
As for how the storage of Chaos Stones, my suggestion is to play rock & roll music nearby. After all, Chaos Stones are rocks, hehehe.
Gardeners need everyone to do their part and cooperate in every adventure. I enjoy being able to contribute and support my companions in any way I can.
Akira and I were once classmates under the same mentor, but he seems reluctant to work with me. Hmm... maybe he's still feeling awkward about not being popular.
While I use drones at work, Miss Yer is more knowledgeable in this field. She's a really nice person.
My parents are excellent doctors, so I hope to be like them... even though my current job isn't in healthcare, I can still protect everyone.
I like cutlery, but not cut atery, get what I mean... Pfft, ahahaha, I can't handle this, hahahahaha!
Many of my collections are ceramic, beautiful yet fragile. It's best to keep them locked away high up in cabinets forever to prevent them from being broken...
I feel that I'm starting to open up more when I'm with you. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
I also rediscover my medical skills when necessary to treat injured companions. Whenever that happens, I always feel excited, but... ah, no, how could I wish for others to get hurt?
Conductor, do you think I'm more of a doctor or a gardener? Doctor means "death omen cannot tear our relationship", and gardener means "gentle affection, radiant days, endless nights, eternal raves". Either way is good, isn't it? Hehehe, do you find this interesting, Conductor?
I'll do my best to assist all of you.
Do mind your steps.
Glad I could help.
Allow me to take care of this!
Passion is needed no matter in combat or healing.
Aaah...! How could I be defeated first...?!
I'm still not qualified...
Thank you for the help, all! As a precaution, please do a thorough physical examination after the battle.
