Rachel
As a Bonfire City Railways League researcher, Rachel is not required to engage in combat. However, to obtain firsthand data and improve her development of the supply reagent kit 'Rainbow Flask', she applied to join Team Meerkat. By working with Team Meerkat, which primarily handles support and special missions, Rachel was able to conduct experiments and collect data on the battlefield. Rachel's research is progressing well juding from the new colors she has developed for the 'Rainbow Flask'.
There's no doubt Rachel is a phenomenal researcher, considering the astonishing insights she shares that often have tremendous impact on research processes. This gifted girl always has all sorts of far-fetched ideas and quickly finds ways to actualize them. But from another perspective, with her insatiable thirst for knowledge, she's also prone to causing trouble. Her resolve in practical applications and obtaining firsthand data trumps her concern for her own well-being, making her a known research fanatic in the research department.
One of the most amazing traits Rachel possesses is her out-of-the-ordinary concentration. Not even failures or any external factors can affect her. With a never-say-die belief, she isn't afraid of trying and failing again and again until achieving success.
As for why she chose the path of scientific research, which is bound to be arduous, she said she was inspired by a satellite launch she witnessed in person as a child. It's hardly possible to verify now how touching of a scene that must have been, but what is guaranteed is that regardless of the difficulties, Rachel will never stop in her explorations of the unknown.
An almost lackadaisical sniper, a reclusive demolitionist, and a captain who rarely interferes in one's personal business are the people who make up all of Rachel's team. Even though they all look like there's nothing anyone can do to surprise them, Rachel is often an exception.
She's an exceptionally genuine person who doesn't worry about difficulties once her mind is set on accomplishing something. Her heartfelt inquisitiveness is what made her take the initiative to leave the laboratory and enter the battlefield but also what frequently causes her to experiment and gather data without considering the consequences, like directly tasting something picked up from the ground. The first time Rachel did that in the presence of her teammates, Reika—who was initially indifferent to Rachel joining their team—was totally flabbergasted and questioned whether Rachel was an idiot before smacking her back hard to make her spit it out.
These occurrences resulted in several stomach aches and even warnings like "nobody will carry you to seek treatment if you're really poisoned," but the notion of kicking the bad habit never crossed Rachel's mind. Moreover, it appears that she can truly acquire some information through "taste" that others can't, and her poison tolerance is also much better than others after her body's long-term conditioning. Of course, under her teammates' supervision, she will still carry gastrointestinal medications and antidotes everywhere with her.
When Rachel first joined the B.C.R.L.'s research department, her main research focus was on fuel, and to obtain first-hand information, she applied to partake in a B.C.R.L.'s team's mission. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a grave mistake, as they encountered a mighty Chaos Remain midway through that mission, which resulted in severe casualties. It goes without saying that the horrendous scene back then deeply traumatized Rachel. Things like "If only field surgery can be more expedient" and "If only I can better support my teammates in combat" kept popping up in her head and eventually imprinting themselves there.
After returning to the research lab, Rachel flipped through stacks of field surgery-related technical reports as a bold idea slowly took shape in her mind—"If only I could design a type of multi-purpose device that can simultaneously be used for medical treatment and combat support." But then came the question—how could she get people to quickly learn the ropes of a device with so many functions and which holds various reagents, not to mention make it even more handy? She had no inspiration for a long time until that day, when she accepted an odd-tasting beverage from a salesperson.
All she needed to do was to make the medicines into such colorful bottles as the beverage! Rachel's inspiration hit her like a ton of bricks, so much so that she hurriedly shoved the beverage back into the salesperson's hand and dashed back to the lab. Following some time of research and development, the prototype of "Rainbow Flask" was born, earning many experts' approval and entering the experimentation phase. As for the fact that the bottle of beverage that Rachel abandoned could've actually been redeemed for the grand prize of a railway loop holiday, it's most likely something she will never get to find out anymore.
People tend to find the things that Rachel likes strange; for example, unusual-flavored cakes and drinks, niche movies with complicated filming methods, and medicines with weird colors and unknown usage. However, this doesn't mean that she doesn't understand 'common sense.' On the contrary, it proves she doesn't really mind people's opinions and the standards of what should be orthodox.
Rachel's colleagues in the research department always found her behavior incomprehensible. When she applied to become part of the B.C.R.L. field personnel in order to finalize the Rainbow Flask, she had to continually swap teams due to the inability to get along with her teammates. Nonetheless, she remained determined and ultimately got to where she is now in spite of constantly being viewed as an oddball.
Rachel's first meeting with Ganya has become a core memory of hers, though. It was during a joint mission, and she had been swapped at the last hour to Ganya's team. As per usual, Rachel did as she pleased, showing no concern for others' thoughts. All she cared about was that her invention could be finalized. Yet, when the mission ended, Ganya asked, "Would you like to join our team?"
It had been a long time since Rachel last felt so taken aback. She couldn't help clarifying, "You're being serious?"
"Although your manner of doing things seems really bizarre, I can see that all the decisions you made during combat were basically correct, and you were prompt when it came to supporting others," said Ganya candidly. "But if you join our team, I won't give you free rein either. You will absolutely be stopped if you attempt to do something weird, like eating something that was picked up from the ground."
Ganya recognized Rachel's disposition but also asked that the latter compromise and cooperate at the bare minimum. "You're only working so hard so that anyone could use the Rainbow Flask, no?" Ganya's words reminded Rachel that her invention was meant to help everyone who needed it; it wasn't something that could be achieved by one person through unceasing research.
Rachel's luck had been abnormally good since she was a child to the extent that she, who never failed to win lucky draws, had long become numb to things like winning prizes and having good fortune. On that day, however, she actually felt the kind of exhilaration and delight one would upon "hitting the jackpot."
"Getting to meet Ganya and befriending everybody in Team Meerkat are the most fortunate events in my life." Whenever Rachel says that, Team Meerkat's members will tell her to stop, but it's probably precisely because they know she means it from the bottom of her heart that makes them bashful.
Hello there, Conductor. I'm a B.C.R.L. researcher responsible for research and development... Oh right, my name! I'm Rachel. Nice to meet you~
Very well. Here I come —
Researchers don't need to participate in combat. But I wanted to gather first-hand data no matter what, so I submitted my application. It's great that I was able to get approval.
Tagging with colors is an effective way to help users remember the use of different reagents. It's easier to say "the blue bottle" than "B.C.R.L.'s Remote Launch Integrated Therapy Agent Prototype 9632," right~
You know, the fountain pen ink is sweet, especially the blue one~ As for how I know this, of course it's because I was curious and had a taste~
I want to add new colors to the Rainbow Flask, for example fluorescent green... but the other researchers said it looks like poison and should not be used.
Ganya gave me a beautiful bow decoration before. That's the color I wanted. She's always so thoughtful, and that's why everyone is so fond of her. I'm one of them of course~
Conductor, have you tried the hot and spicy sea salt onion cake? I'm rather fond of it~ But others can't seem to appreciate it. How strange...
If it's the truth you're after, you can't give up easily. That's what I learnt from watching a satellite launch when I was a child.
There are many regulations in the B.C.R.L. research lab to abide by. It's rather hard to remember all the rules.
I won in the lottery again, Conductor. I haven't redeemed it, so I'll give it to you! Huh... I remember I kept the lottery ticket... huh, there's a hole in my pocket. How strange...
This ribbon's color suits you, Conductor. Want to try it on? Mhm, with a bow tied, you look like a gift waiting to be unwrapped~
Even though I'm curious about the unknown, I understand that some things shouldn't be put in mouth... Back then, that kid struck me for trying cat food. Resentment over food is really scary...
I was too reckless in my experiments before, so Ganya gave me a good scolding. But I know she's not mad at me, because Ganya is just like that~
Here we are at the exciting practical phase again!
Will there by any new, fun discoveries this time?
I'll keep up with you!
Leave the support to me!
A color that fits my current mood... This one!
Urgh, my stomach hurts...
Success is really only attainable through a mountain of failures...
Awesome! The data collected this time are excellent again!
